The design of AL-03 draws significant inspiration from the glass art pieces created by Larry Bell in the 1960s, which were a part of the Light and Space movement originating in Southern California. 

In line with the geometric theme of previous AL models, AL-03 utilizes two square aluminum planes to form the 'L' shapes that support the smoked glass top. The strategic offset of these 'L' shapes visually aligns the two opposing squares, generating a negative space that suggests the appearance of a single rectangle. This approach mirrors Bell's emphasis on negative space, treating it as an integral part of the design, just as vital as the positive elements.
