The Nandi Bench is a taller, more slender iteration of the Nandi Daybed, designed for versatile placement—whether at an entryway, along a dining table, or at the foot of a bed. Its gently curved ends are formed without heat, relying instead on a precise woodworking technique in which a small piece of wood is slotted into a larger one. This method, detailed in an accompanying video, minimizes material waste while imparting a distinctive visual detail.
“The ribs of the bench and daybed recall the fingers of a hand—a hand that carries the person sitting or reclining on it. This notion of ‘being carried’ is deeply rooted in East Asian thought and spirituality,” notes designer Klemens Grund. A three-seater, the Nandi Bench is accompanied by a light, hand-tufted organic cotton mattress, upholstered in Zanav textile.
Each piece in the Nandi collection features custom-shaped felt pads, seamlessly integrated into the leg’s base. Designed for both longevity and discretion, these pads enhance durability while maintaining the collection’s refined aesthetic.
