The Niwar Sofa, part of the Niwar Collection by Switzerland-based design studio BIG-GAME for Phantom Hands, explores the interplay of structure and softness.

A rigid outer shell, wrapped in coarse cotton Niwar tape, encloses a plush linen-upholstered interior, creating a tactile contrast between materials. The inner frame, shaped from bent plywood, is layered with hand-stitched Niwar tapes, reinforcing the sofa’s structural integrity while maintaining visual lightness.

Developed in collaboration with fabric partner Zanav Home, the precise color matching between the cotton tapes and linen cushions is achieved through traditional vat dyeing techniques. The result is a refined composition suited to residential interiors, hotels, and reception lobbies.
