The Upholstered Easy Armchair is a refined re-edition of the original lounge chair, first designed for offices and residences in Chandigarh and Ahmedabad. Retaining its signature compass legs and precise proportions, this version introduces structural refinements for contemporary use while preserving the material integrity of the original.
This edition is available in two distinct upholstery options. Andaman Slate, a cotton-linen blend developed by textile maker Zanav, is woven in a simple Panama weave and dyed to a deep slate black. The fabric undergoes a specialized vat-dyeing process, where cycles of reduction and oxidation create subtle tonal variations— a signature characteristic of Zanav textiles.
Alternatively, the KeSa Upholstery Collection, designed by textile artist Padmaja Krishnan, features upcycled Patchwork Textile, meticulously assembled from discarded and new cotton fabrics. Each yard is individually composed, hand-stitched, and finished by women artisans in Mumbai, ensuring that no two pieces are alike. The KeSa Indigo colorway, seen here, carries a rich blue-grey hue achieved through careful layering of fabric remnants.
To complement the upholstery, the chair is finished in two distinct wood treatments. The Charcoal (Z7) finish, developed for Andaman Slate, is achieved through hand-applied black stain and sealer, followed by steel brushing for a subtly textured effect. The P1 Black finish, designed for KeSa Indigo, is created through layered black staining, light brushing, and a final application of hard wax oil, lending the wood a deep, matte patina.
